Vaporizers
Vaporizers, Dab Pens, E-Rigs and 510 Batteries
Electronic devices for flower and concentrate, from pocket 510 batteries to full e-rigs with their own water filtration. The range covers portable dry herb units, dab pens, e-rigs, batteries, and the coils, chambers and chargers that keep them running. If you are choosing your first one, the two questions that decide it are what you are vaporizing and whether the device needs to leave the house.
Shop by Device Type
- Portable Vaporizers: Handheld units built for flower, with temperature control and a chamber you pack yourself.
- Dry Herb Pens: The slimmest way to vaporize flower, sized to disappear into a pocket.
- Dab Pens: Concentrate pens with ceramic or quartz atomizers. The largest part of this range and the usual starting point.
- E-Rigs: All-in-one electronic rigs for concentrates, most with a glass bubbler attached, so you get filtration without a torch.
- 510 Batteries: Button or draw activated, many with variable voltage and a preheat mode for thicker oil.
- Parts and Accessories: Replacement coils, chambers, glass attachments and chargers, matched to specific devices.
Temperatures Worth Knowing
- Dry herb: Around 360 to 390°F keeps the flavor intact. Push to 390 to 420°F for thicker vapor, and stir the chamber partway through so it extracts evenly.
- Concentrates: 450 to 520°F is the flavor range. 520 to 580°F trades some of that for volume. Higher than this mostly makes residue.
- Preheat: Use it briefly to loosen thick oil or clear a chamber. Leaning on it is what bakes material onto an atomizer.
Coils, Batteries and Upkeep
Most complaints about a vape are really complaints about a worn coil or a dirty connection. Replace an atomizer or coil at the first burnt taste, dark buildup or drop in vapor, and buy the one made for your device rather than a lookalike, since resistance and airflow are matched to the electronics. Wipe 510 threads and magnetic contacts regularly, because a thin film there reads as a dead battery. Charge with the cable the manufacturer supplied and skip high-wattage quick-charge bricks unless the device says it supports them.
Weak hits usually come from a flat battery, a coil that needs reseating, or a chamber packed too tight to draw through. Harsh vapor almost always means the temperature is too high or the coil is scorched. For glass attachments and bubblers, cleaning supplies handle the resin. Carb caps, terp pearls and bangers sit in dabbing gear, and a grinder is worth having for any dry herb device, since an even pack is most of the battle.
Vaporizer FAQ
What counts as an electronic smoking device?
Anything that heats flower or concentrate electrically rather than with a flame. That covers portable dry herb vaporizers and dry herb pens, dab pens, e-rigs, 510 thread batteries, and the replacement coils, chambers and chargers those devices need.
What is the difference between a dry herb vaporizer and an e-rig?
A dry herb vaporizer heats loose flower in a chamber, by conduction, convection or a mix of the two. An e-rig vaporizes concentrate in a ceramic or quartz atomizer, runs hotter, and usually has a small glass bubbler attached so the vapor is filtered through water.
Are 510 cartridges universal?
The 510 thread itself is a standard, so most oil cartridges will screw onto most 510 batteries. Fit is not the whole story. Match the battery's voltage range to what the cartridge is designed for, since running a thin oil too hot scorches it and a thick oil too cool barely moves.
What temperature should I use?
For flower, roughly 360 to 390 degrees Fahrenheit for flavor and 390 to 420 for denser vapor. For concentrate, 450 to 520 for flavor and 520 to 580 for a balance of taste and volume. If a device only offers presets, the lower ones are the flavor settings.
Which atomizer material is best?
Quartz heats fastest and keeps the most flavor. Ceramic heats more evenly and feels smoother, at the cost of a slower ramp. Neither is better in the abstract, and the more important rule is to buy the atomizer built for your device rather than a generic one that merely fits.
How do I get smoother vapor?
Drop the temperature a step and slow the draw down. Most harshness is heat, not the material. Devices with an isolated vapor path or a water attachment help, and for concentrate an e-rig with a bubbler is a noticeable difference over a bare pen.
Why is my device giving weak hits?
Work through it in order: charge it fully, reseat the coil or cartridge, then clean the threads and contacts, since a film of residue there mimics a dead battery. If it is still weak, the chamber may be packed too tightly to draw through, or the coil is simply worn out.
How often should I replace coils and atomizers?
By taste rather than by calendar. Burnt flavor, dark crust or a clear drop in vapor all mean it is done, which for regular use tends to land somewhere between one and three weeks. Thicker material shortens that.
What charger should I use?
The cable that came with the device, or the one the manufacturer specifies. Avoid high-wattage quick-charge bricks unless the device explicitly supports them, since these are small batteries and fast charging shortens their life. Do not leave anything charging unattended overnight.
How do I keep a device clean?
Wipe the 510 threads and magnetic contacts often, since that is where performance quietly dies. Swab atomizers and mouthpieces while they are still slightly warm, because residue moves before it hardens. Glass attachments and bubblers clean like any other glass.
Can I use a vaporizer with a water pipe?
Many e-rigs already have a bubbler, so the filtration is built in. For a dry herb vaporizer you need an adapter matched to both the device and the joint size on your piece, so check the joint measurement before buying anything.
What should I buy alongside?
A spare coil or atomizer, because they are consumable and always fail at the wrong moment. A grinder for any dry herb device, since an even pack is most of what separates a good session from a weak one. For concentrate, a carb cap gives you real control over airflow and heat.
